Engineer Design Unique Celestial Gyroscope - Great Gift
Sellers actual description: Well I dont know where to start. I had a concept for building a large celestial ornament, but to the life of me didnt know where to stop. I started off with one or two rings, then ended up with 9 rings, all pivoting at slightly different angles. I used 3mm thick alloy as the medium, laser cut, with indexing in the rings at 24 equal spaced positions. The construction is two rings, with locating lugs, each of these has a 6mm hole. I have oposed the bolting contruction to make it symetrical. The feet I did use a jigsaw joint, and intended to space these of the main hoop, but changed this at the built stage, thinking I might mount it differently, so at the moment it could be hung. (with the option of removing the base). Its fixed together with simple huts and bolts, but would like to see the joints using simple thrust washers.
This is the important part: I think this ornament is a hazard, so will joint the plates up for sale so it stands flat, I have caught my fingers in it several times now. Now I dont want poeple trying to “no win no fee-call the accident make me rich line”. So if you remove the plates and allow this thing to animate, then you have modified it. I am sure you understand.
Its weight it 17-18Kg so not to bad to hang or mount.
You can be sure its unique, as it was designed and built by me, in my shed!
I have got this out of my system, and should concetrate on the english wheels, its time it went so its not distracting me. Yes you could fit motors to it, I bought some strong earth magnets, but never got round to fitting them. Make it your project and take it further. Its over a meter in diameter 1.2 in fact.
Anyhow a video of it (with those plates removed)
